Goodbye NTUC FairPrice, Hello Giant

This is my lunch, nothing much though except the mabo tofu and broccoli. Later in the afternoon, we may be shopping for our groceries at Giant. We are now reluctant to shop at NTUC FairPrice as their policy governing membership and rebates are very misleading.
In May 2016, we were stopped at the entrance of a FairPrice supermart by some sales people from NTUC. They persuaded my wife to become a member of the NTUC FairPrice. They explained that as long as we patronize FairPrice, we will get back the $9 per month subscription fees (deducted from our bank account through GIRO) at the end of each year. Now after 16 months of payment of the $9 monthly, we have yet to receive any refund. When we called them, they told my wife that she was not entitled to the refund of $144 unless she buy some NTUC shares. On that note, my wife told them she would like to resign from the membership. Besides buying from FairPrice at the average of $250 per month of groceries, we had to fork out $144 which was eventually forfeited.
Now you understand why we stopped shopping at FairPrice.

Balancing the Yin and Yangs

These days, my body seems to tell me that I am "heaty". I am having ulcers in my mouth lately which has not been happening since years ago. Therefore to counter the "heatiness", I eat coconuts and drink the juice. It helps a lot and now all my mouth ulcers have disappeared. It is a matter of balancing the "Yin" and "Yangs"

Powerball jackpot, largest ever won by one ticket in the US.

A single lottery ticket worth US$758 million has won the largest lottery prize in US history a few days ago by a 52 year old woman. What would you do with all that money? When converted to S$ it is about $986 million. The winner opted to take cash minus the taxes and it came to S$440 million.
I will buy a beautiful house, get myself a powerful expensive car, donate some to charity and go for a nice long vacation. Would you do the same?

Ciabatta sandwich for breakfast

Ciabatta is the Italian's answer to the French baguette. To me, ciabatta taste better than the baguette because it is softer and when warmed up in the toaster, it can be crispy. We bought the ciabatta from Giant supermarket which is inexpensive. The fillings were fried egg, cheese, bits of chicken meat and cherry tomatoes. It made my day after eating the above, accompanied by a cup of hot milo.

                                                Lunch but no dinner today

Lunch was made up of fried chili prawns, fried spicy tempeh with okra, prawn based miso soup, coleslaw and Japanese white rice.

Our toy poodle Chibee?

We came across this cute little toy poodle at a shop in Japan. It reminded us of our late toy poodle Chibee who passed away last year of a rare blood disease. Each time we play this video, we would recall all the wonderful memories of our late cute and lovable pet.

Bought 2 sea bass from Giant at $3.90 each and cooked it our style. Although the fish were fresh, my wife preferred to cook them with sauces made from vinegar, black soya souce etc. The dish don't have much appeal but it tasted great.
Top photo was taken from the internet but our 2 fishes were slightly smaller.

My parents- in-laws' house in Japan

This is my in-laws' house in Fukuoka, Southern Japan. It is 42 years old and is about an hour drive from Fukuoka Airport. The  house is situated in a quiet neighborhood void of restaurants, supermarkets and other amenities. The nearest supermarket and restaurant is 20 minutes drive away.
I was told the value of the house is zero but the piece of land could fetch about S$120,000 which was the price they initially paid for in 1975. The freehold land is about 1,200 sq feet.
They may want to sell it and buy a new one in a place that is convenient to them but it would cost them a lot more. A 2-storey house like this one in a better suburb may cost about S$360,000 which is still much cheaper than in Singapore.
Land in Japan is not as expensive as in Singapore. My friend who bought a 10,000 sq feet freehold land with a house in Singapore in the 1970s for S$70,000 could easily fetch between $6 million and $8 million today.

Police investigations are ongoing.

We cooked sayor lodeh for lunch. It is made up of veggies like cabbage, carrots, turnips, eggs, coconut milk plus turmeric which is a preventive herb against Alzheimer (made the dish yellowish in color). Due to my age, I have to eat more turmeric and coconut milk/juice/oil to prevent myself from the dreadful Alzheimer that caused the death of the famous singer, Glen Campbell, Ronald Regan and Magaret Thatcher just to name a few.

Curry lunch and steamed fish and gobo for dinner

It is good to eat curry as the spices in the curry has lots of health benefits. Turmeric which formed part of the spices contains properties that can help prevent Dementia, Alzheimer and other diseases. Coconut juice used in the curry can also do wonders to your health.
Studies have shown that the Indians has the lowest rate of Alzheimer and Dementia due to their frequent eating of curries.
Dinner was steamed sea bass and a plate of fried sliced gobo (burdock). Gobo is also nutritious and contains many health benefits. First and foremost, it could detoxify the blood, cure cancer, diabetes etc. The Japanese eat a lot of gobo or burdock.
The bottom picture was that of a cheese burger also made by my wife.
