A 49-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident has been arrested for causing death by rash act, said police on Tuesday (23 August).
According to Chinese paper Lianhe Wanbao, the victim’s family said that the suspect turned himself in after police released his photo on Monday (22 August).
The accident took place last Thursday (17 August), along Jalan Bukit Merah towards Queensway outside a McDonald’s outlet at about 6.34am.
The victim, 78-year-old Song Chee Keong, sustained serious head injuries and died two days later in hospital. The suspect was allegedly on a power-assisted bicycle and left the scene before police arrived.
If the suspect is found guilty of a hit-and-run accident, he can be fined up to $3,000 or jailed for up to 12 months or both. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $5,000 or jailed for up to two years or both.
Police investigations are ongoing.
