Cataract operation in Changi Hospital

I had cataract operation on my right eye. In August last year I had the ops on my left eye. This time I did not take any pictures of the time I spent in the hospital. It was day surgery and all went well except that my wrist was blue black due to the needle that was inserted for the anesthesia. The young male anesthetist was not so efficient or experienced hence the blue black mark!
The ops it self was fast (about 10 minutes) but the prepartion and the recovery time in the ward was about 2 hours. They will take your blood pressure, instil eyedrops etc and make sure you are fit to go through the ops. One thing that is bad is the temperature in the ward and ops theathre which is very cold. With the anxiety and cold environment, your BP could shoot up skyhigh.
The ops cost for 1 eye is about $1,200 after subsidy. I was told w/o subsidy, it would have cost 4+K.
I was allowed to use 1K from my medisave (which is actually my own money) and $200 cash.
The surgeon who operated on me had 9 other patients on the same day. Must say the nursing staff are nice and professional people. About 50% of the nurses in the operating theater were Filipinas.
I am now in the recovery mode and should be up and about in the next few days.

Guardian Pharmacy sells the above blood pressure guage about $17 less ($79) than Unity which usually gives senior citizen some discounts. I was almost conned into buying it from Unity had I not checked the price with Guardian which has a store in the same shopping mall.
There is a newly opened Food Paradise coffee shop at block 417, Fernvale Link (opp H2O Condo). I was there this morning. The kopi and tea are much more expensive than most coffee shops. The kopi/teh O is $1.10 and with milk is $1.20. The service is very very slow as the kopi uncle is old and inexperienced. I had the nasi briyani which is so lousy and expensive ($6 for a fish briyani that is full of fish scales) that I didn't finished eating it.

Had my usual oh luwak and kopi O at Ang Mo Kio " Chong Boon" Food Center this afternoon. Not satisfied, I decided to try the Prawn Mee with soup nearby. In fact, I was recommended by a friend to try the mee. It was quite good and substantial for the price ($3). There was no queue at all.

I revisited Northpoint City again and tried the Pan Mee ($4) from Malaysia Chiak. The mee was like the Singapore home-made bain mian. The texture was smooth but somehow, the chilli sauce etc lacked the "punch" or "kick" as we call it. Overall, the taste was quite good.
Since, I was there just passed 3pm, I ordered a cup of local coffee which cost only 50 cents. This is the cheapest coffee in SG but this low price (50 cts) for a cup of coffee/tea is only available from 3pm till 5pm on a weekday.

Just before I left Yishun, I went to Block 928 and "tar pow" our favourite laksa. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no queue at this laksa stall. I think the newly opened Northpoint City which has more than a hundred eateries, has overshadowed this laksa. I will be very sad if the laksa stall closes due to poor business.

Dining with old friends

It's not often that I dine with friends but last night we met and had dinner. We chatted about old times as most old people do. We had a great time together. A Korean couple was supposed to join us but did not turn up.

We visited Northpoint City, the biggest mall in the north. It is situated next to the Yishun MRT station, linked by an underpath walkway. We headed for the south wing which was opened recently. It has more than 100 restaurants, cafe and eateries. Since we were not so hungry, we decided to try the mee rebus ($3) and the nasi lemak ($3.50) from a Malaysia Chiak stall. We were attracted to Malaysia Chiak because of the long queue. MC sells all Malaysia dishes. The 2 dishes that we ate were delicious and satisfying. Malaysia Chiak sells coffee/tea at 50 cents a cup from 3pm till 5pm on a weekday.

We bought 18 pieces of medium size prawns for $6.70 and made tempura ebi. They tasted superb perhaps due to my wife's cooking. I could not have done the same as I am still a novice at cooking Japanese dishes. Wonder how much will it cost to eat the above at a restaurant in SG?

My daughter and my grandson had the premium seafood bowl and salmon don (below pictures) for $49 and $17 respectively at Bonta Bonta (too expensive for us retirees)
🤣😁😂

A scuffle during the Lunar New Year

A fight broke out between these 2 fellows. I was a bit late to video the whole incident. Don't know why they fought but it's isn't surprising at all for this sort of things to happen in a highly pressurized state like Singapore.
Last year I read of one incident whereby a small guy was confronted by a bigger guy over some small matter. The small fella grabbed a chopper from a nearby hawker stall and butchered the bigger guy for allegedly bullying him. The case should coming up short. I was told it was a case of self defence rather than murder.
People in SG are under a lot of stress. The island of only 719 sq km houses 5.6 million. SG has a million vehicles on the road. There are many road works along the highway and on most roads. Traffic jams are common here. The shopping malls, shops and restaurants are filled with people especially on weekends and public holidays. I tried to have a cup of coffee at a coffee shop yesterday (2nd day of Lunar New Year) but the queue was so long that I went without my coffee. It was the same story at Ya Kun, Toast Box etc.
Once, I overtook a car and the driver chased, cut into my lane and jammed his brake right in front of my vehicle, which almost caused an accident. He came out of his car holding a crowbar and challenged me to a fight. He was half my age. To fight me, an old man he doesn't need a weapon. He was a coward.
Two years ago, a retired ifs (aged 68) was beaten badly by a young man of 22 for supposedly trying to get "fresh" with his girlfriend. The ifs was a fella whom I knew all these years not to be interested in women, let alone get "fresh" with a girl. The perpetrator was sentenced to a few weeks in jail.
SG is not a bad place to live but the people aren't gracious and nice. I feel like leaving this place and migrate to Japan or Australia.
