After almost 24 hours without food

After our last meal of char kway teow/hokkien mee and roasted duck yesterday (24 hours ago), we started eating the above this early afternoon. The breakfast was the usual bacon, sausages, fried eggs, salad and cheese on toast. Today, we had the short bread as an extra accompaniment. The drink before this was a cup of hot Suzuki coffee but the Japanese tea above was the drink that went with this meal.

Bah kut teh dinner@ Rong Hua, Waterway Point

This is our first time eating at Rong Hua. The bah kut is not as good as those sold at Song Fa. It's mild and not peppery but not too bad though.
The pork ribs were not "fatty" but rather lean.Their business is not as brisk as Song Fa. We would not patronise this place given that we have Song Fa at our doorstep (Seletar Mall).

Only one meal today

We had the char kway teow and fried Hokkien mee plus the roasted duck for lunch at Jalan Kayu. The food was excellent and inexpensive too. CKT & Hokkien mee was $4 each and roasted duck was $16 ( half duck minus the drumstick---someone else got it before we could)
Visited Waterway Point Shopping Mall at Punggol in the evening but found the place swarmed with hundreds of people. All the eateries were packed and long queues waiting outside. We left without having anything to eat. Anyway, we weren't hungry. Below are some pictures I took showing how packed the place was.

Lunch@ Waterway Point, Punggol

We were at the Waterway Point Mall in Punggol again this afternoon for lunch. This time we ate at the Osaka Ohsho, a Japanese restaurant. We ordered the gyoza meal sets. One set was the fried chicken gyoza set and the other kimchi pork gyoza set. They were priced around $16 each. The total bill without drinks came to $37 which was quite expensive.
Taste-wise the food is not bad but not extraordinary.

Waterway Point is an interesting place to shop and eat. It is huge like Nex Mall in Serangoon and Jem in Jurong.
Pay Waterway a visit and you will like it.
The NE MRT line will take you there (NE line terminates at Punggol and Waterway is next to it)

Lunch at Plaza Singapura, 27 Jan 2016 with my former classmates and teacher

This afternoon we had the pleasure of the company of Mr Koh Beng Thiam our former chemistry and discipline master for lunch. He flew in from Toronto a few days ago.
I have downloaded the song "If not for you" by Olivia Newton-John for the above video since Mr Koh told me it is one of his favourite songs.
We had lunch at Kopitiam, Plaza Singapura.
After lunch, Dr Raymond Teo invited us for refreshment at "Teddy & Me" which was on level 5.
Thank you Raymond!

Singapore's newest shopping mall, Waterway Point Mall

I visited the newly opened Waterway Point Mall in Punggol this morning and was pleasantly surprised to find it to be spacious and huge compared to some other suburban malls in Singapore. I snapped some nice pictures and uploaded them to YouTube for my readers to see.

Waterway Point is a suburban shopping mall located in the town centre of Punggol New Town, Singapore, just beside Punggol MRT/LRT station. The mall was built as part of Punggol's first integrated waterfront residential and retail development,Watertown. It is the first mall in Singapore to be integrated with a town square and a visitors’ centre which provides an avenue for residents and the public to learn more about the heritage of Punggol through exhibitions and civic and community events. The mall had a soft launch on January 18, 2016 and will be officially opened in Q2 of 2016.

Located beside the Punggol Waterway, Waterway Point boasts of having the first ever suburban late-night shopping, alfresco dining and entertainment concept by the waterfront, setting it apart from other suburban shopping malls located around the area. The mall also features themed spaces such as The Cove, which features a interactive water fountain play area, Village Square, Market Square and Event Square catering to community events for residents living around the area and through these themed spaces, visitors can learn more about the heritage of Punggol through exhibitions and civic and community events.
The layout of the mall is different from many traditional mall layouts, it is separated into the East Wing and West Wing which are connected by a walkway, The Boardwalk. Each level of the mall is separated into "zones", with each level catering to different visitors.
As a family oriented mall, it features a "Kids and Family Zone" on Level 2, with various educational learning centres such as My First Skool and Wonderland, a themed space for children to play and learn in and also the largest Times Bookstore outlet in Singapore. The food court operated by Koufu is also located on this floor.
The mall features a "Fashion and Food Zone" on Level 1, with most of the restaurants offering local and international cuisines and also waterfront dining as well as salons and banks. Fashion brands such as a 2-storey H&M, Charles & Keith, Uniqlo and other international and local fashion brands are located on this level.
Basement 1 features the "Waterfront Promenade & Alfresco Dining" zone, where restaurants offering alfresco dining by the promenade are located at. Telecommunications companies such as Singtel, fashion brands and other services are also located on this level.
The mall has a “Lifestyle and Convenience” level at Basement 2 which operates 24 hours, with a FairPrice Finest supermarket, which occupies 30,000 square feet of retail space anchoring the activities round-the-clock, complemented by various dining and entertainment outlets. Shaw Theatres, Singapore's first basement cinema with an IMAX theatre occupying 32,500 square feet of retail space with an estimated 1,000 seats will also be located at Basement 2, it has 11 screens and is the largest suburban cinema in Singapore.

Met ex SIA senior staff who is a reader of my blog

Met this retired senior staff from SIA at Marina Bay area. We exchanged greetings although we weren't close friends nor colleagues. Nice chap. He has retired some years ago. He and his wife were actually waiting for the gondola ride.
He told me he used to visit my blog and the things that I mentioned were true. He gave 2 examples where he was personally involved, one was the caviar case pax and the other about the Japanese pax who demanded to be compensated with a jumbo jet because the cabin crew spilled drinks on him. Read here .

Yishun laksa and dessert for lunch

Meet up with ex IFS MH

The meeting was arranged between us, me and the retired IFS known as MH. We met at his favourite Outram Park char kway teow stall in Chinatown in the morning after sending his wife to work. We had a good time together chatting about old times. MH is one of my closest IFSs. This guy is a gentleman and humorous too. I always enjoy his company.
We had our char kway teow with extra cockles and eggs. It was by far one of the best ckt in Singapore. Since it was early morning there was no queue at all. We also had 2 cups of kopi O each.
Hope to see you again MH and may you remain healthy and happy.

27 radicalised foreigners arrested under ISA

Twenty-seven Bangladeshi construction workers were arrested here under the Internal Security Act, after they were found to be contemplating armed jihad overseas including in their homeland, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said today (Jan 20).

BT: I shudder to think what will happen to Singapore if these 27 Bangladeshi construction workers were not apprehended.
In their confession, they claimed to prepare attacks overseas and not Singapore. These are people who are radicalised and support the IS and Al-Qaeda ideology of Jihad.
I must congratulate the Singapore authorities for the swift action in nipping the bud of terrorism here.

Early dinner@ Ikea Tampines

Was at Courts to buy a desktop for my wife. Just before that we stopped at Ikea for our meal which was made up of 6 Ikea chicken wings, lotus leaf rice and lasagne salmon. We spent $24 and considered the food to be fairly good. After dinner, we bought a desktop at Courts for $1,399 (Acer).

Bar Cho Mee and Outram Park Char Kway Teow

I was at Chinatown again this morning and ordered the above. It was supposed to be my lunch. I did not have breakfast. The fried kway teow was as good as the one I had last week but this time I paid extra $1 for more see hum or cockles which was not worth it as the see hum were very tiny. The bar chor mee was slightly above average. I ordered extra fish cake which came up to $4.50.

Lunching in and my dislike for weekends......

Today being a Saturday where most of the eateries are packed with people, my wife decided to cook macaroni au gratin for lunch. I like her cooking be it Japanese or Western.
It looks like we will be staying at home and relax until the weekend is over. Frankly, we do not like weekends, school holidays and public holidays. The main reason is that the shopping and eating places will be swarmed with children and all types of people.
Imagine, in a few years time, we are going to have a population explosion of almost 7 million people in Singapore. Right now, with a population of 5.4 million the island is crowded and what more 7 million. The so called expressways are constantly jammed with heavy traffic and all these are making life very stressful. If we are not careful one of these days this island will sink.

Famous Outram Park Char Kway Teow and Dinner @ home

I was at Chinatown this afternoon and even though I was not hungry I would not want to give this famous char kway teow a miss. Fortunately, it was around 2:30pm and the lunch time crowd has dwindled or else there will be  a long queue. Even at this time there were people who "tar pow" many packets and I had to wait 15 minutes before I got mine.
I ordered the $3 plate and a cup of kopi O (90 cts) from next door kopi stall. The CKT and kopi were satisfying.

Home cooked dinner

The top picture is a dish called Nikujaga. It is a Japanese dish of meat, potatoes and onion stewed in sweetened soy sauce, sometimes with ito konnyaku and vegetables. Generally, potatoes make up the bulk of the dish, with meat mostly serving as a source of flavor. It is usually boiled until most of the liquid has been reduced.Thinly sliced beef is the most common meat used, although minced/ground beef is also popular. Pork is often used instead of beef in eastern Japan.
Nikujaga is a common home-cooked winter dish, served with a bowl of white rice and miso soup.
The centre is fried "glass noodles" with mushrooms, minced meat and veggie while the last one is the psyllium husk coffee jelly topped up with whipped cream.
