Snacks and titbits in Japan

In Japan there are plenty of snacks like potato chips, cream puffs etc. The chips come in many varieties and cheap too. Take for example the spicy chips (126 gm) is less than S$2. The cream puffs are sweet and soft and cost 50 cents each. I love the egg and chicken sandwiches ($3). The bread for the sandwiches are tender and soft.
If you love eating, Japan is a good place to be in. I've since gained 3 kilos since living in Japan.

Food is relatively cheap in Japan

The obento or packed food and fruits are relatively cheap compared to Singapore. In the evening, the they are offered at a huge discount of 50%.
The container of cut mixed fruits is at 99 Yen which is S$1.25c. It was packed on 10 July morning and by evening (expiry date is 11 July) it was sold at 50%.
The same goes for the 3 boxes of fried chicken fried rice set, pork cutlet sesame rice set and pork cutlet sandwiches. They all sold for 199 Yen each which is S$2.50.
The currency exchange rate is 100 Yen = S$1.25c or 80 Yen to S$1.

Preparing toasted bacon cheese sandwiches

Soak the slices of bread sandwiches of ham and cheese in egg & fresh milk mixtures. Then lightly fry the sandwiches in butter in a pan. Turn over the sandwiches when the first side is a little brownish. Dish out the sandwiches and place them in a side plate and you are ready to eat.

Breakfast was a cup of coffee and meat sandwiches at a konbini. Did not tour Japan yet because we do not have a car. We are waiting for my in-laws' new car to arrive so we would drive around (arriving in 3 weeks time).

Sushi for lunch

We bought the sushi from a supermarket for lunch in Kitakyushu. They tasted fresh and good. We do not mind going to the sushi restaurant for sashimi and sushi but they are much more expensive. One of these days we will visit the famous Karato Fish Market for sushi and sashimi.
Eating at home is more comfortable and relaxing. The cost of the above sushi and potato salad is about 1,200 Japanese Yen or S$15.

Eating at home on Sunday

Crowded Sunday so we prepared our food and ate at home. Breakfast was sandwiches prepared by me. The orange stuff on the slice of bread (top pic) was cheese with other fillings like egg, tuna etc.
The bottom pic was our lunch.

Sandwiches and papaya salad

This morning our breakfast was tuna, cheese and egg sandwiches, prepared at home. This was one of the best sandwiches I ever had. The bread was purchased from Four Leaves bakery. Its texture was soft and ideal for sandwiches.

This papaya salad was my lunch. It was delicious and prepared by my wife after I told her I had this at a hawker once before. This was quite similar to the one I ate at the hawker stall. In fact, it was better.
