Home cooked laksa with ready made paste

I bought the above ingredients from Sheng Siong supermarket. The brand name of
the laksa paste is Hai's. You may also add a bit of dry shrimps  (pound) and fry it with the paste in hot oil. After that add about 600 to 800 ml of water and 200 ml of coconut milk. Boil the mixture with some tau pok. Then pour the gravy into a bowl of cooked laksa noodles and towgay. You may add some sliced fish cake and cockles plus a teaspoon of sambal. To enhance the flavour, you may also put in some laksa leaves. The end result is the laksa is as tasty as the famous Yishun 928 laksa. It is very simple and convenient to make your own laksa with ready made paste. Try it and probably you won't want to eat the hawkers' laksa anymore.

Best curry noodles in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This stall in KL serves the above curry noodles with lots of toppings. By 8 am, the stall would have closed. So one has to be in the queue by 5.30am. For MR 8 (S$2.70), this is cheap and good. Try it when you next visit KL. The place is called Coca Sea Food Restaurant.

This laksa (chicken) is as good as the 928 Yishun laksa except that it is sold at Seletar Mall which is airconditioned and comfortable. Yes, it is more expensive that 928 but it came with chicken meat.
928 is at $3.30 whereas this one is $4.50 but in larger portion. Sorry I forgot to mention that the laksa was from a chicken rice stall called "My Kampong".

Visited Kaki Bukit for breakfast. The Malay rice was quite nice and so was the laksa (except the cockles were small). This is an industrial area where many vehicle repair shops, wood workshop etc was located. I sent my vehicle there for general servicing and repair work.

Penang laksa in Singapore

There are two items on the menu: assam laksa ($3.50) and fish balls in assam laksa soup ($2.50 for five balls). The fish balls (topmost pic), to me are no big deal. They are just like those one could buy from the supermarket. The laksa gravy is authentic and spicy and the noodles are springy. This is the second I've eaten in 2 weeks.

Venue:

D'LAKSA

B1-K7 Hougang Mall, 90 Hougang Avenue 10

Open: 10am to 10pm daily

Those who plan to eat the noodles at home can ask for the soup to be packed separately.

Assam Laksa at Hougang Mall

This is one of the best Penang laksa in SG. It is being sold at Hougang Mall along Hougang Avenue 10, a stone's throw from the Hougang MRT Station. This is a take away joint and if you want to eat then bring the laksa up to the 4 level of the mall where there is a foodcourt.
The laksa cost $3.50c and the taste is delightfully spicy. Service may be a bit slow and the queue wasn't long but it's worthwhile waiting.
After the laksa, I had a piece of durain kueh and a kueh salat from the famous Bengawan Solo. These kueh made a sensible dessert after that spicy laksa.
Incidentally, I had a $10 haircut from a Malay barber. Nearby is a hairdresser shop where one could get a haircut for $3.80c. I do not like the $3.80 cheap haircut as the women hairdressers are not proficient in cutting men's hair.

Instant Laksa by Prima

We tried the Prima instant laksa for lunch. It wasn't as well flavoured as the one by Koka. Prima is more expensive than Koka. Prima is about $2.40 per pack whereas Koka is $1 (not sure).
Prima's noodles are bigger and larger in quantity. Koka's are more like Maggi's instant noodles.

Eating laksa at home

Skin allergy aside, I am going to indulge in my one of my favourites...Laksa! Also tonight I've been invited to a X'mas Eve dinner at one of relatives' home. Will post more photos here.
