A regular visitor to KL

Met an old guy this afternoon and had a drink with him. Quite an interesting fellow. James is his name and he commute between here and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or KL as we call it.
He would take a bus from JB and travel to KL almost every weekend and return to Singapore on Monday or Tuesday. When asked why he takes the bus ride to KL so often, his reply was "I have work to do over there" (he is actually a retiree).
The bus ride with 1 stop in between is about 5 hours.
We chatted about many things and agreed to meet again next week.

Breakfast: Hong Kong porridge, char siew, siew yok and a cup of kopi O

I am a heartlander,an ordinary average Singaporean who eats and live in a government subsidised flat. I have classmates and friends who are wealthy and had never lived in a HDB flat. They drive nice cars like Mercedes, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Maserati etc that cost hundred of thousands of dollars. They live in the prime districts like Holland Road, Bukit Timah etc areas. One even live in a $30 million house with swimming pool, gardeners, cooks and maids.
They seldom eat at the hawker stalls or coffee shops but instead in Orchard Road areas where there are expensive restaurants and hotel cafes. But that's life and I am just as contented as they are.
Therefore, you would seldom see me post pictures of posh restaurants but instead of hawker stalls, coffee shops or those heartland malls nearby.

Attended a wake last night

Attended one of my classmate wife's wake last night. Poor fellow was so lost as he had depended on his wife to do almost everything for him. Now she is gone, he didn't even know how much money they had in their bank account. He told me she would take all his salaries and give him an allowance to spend everyday.
Another friend was shocked to find out after his wife's demise that she had owed her creditors a few hundred grands.
To be too dependant on someone, be it your spouse, parents, siblings etc is not a good thing. My uncle in Sydney was so dependant on his wife that when she passed away, he didn't even know how to go on living. He became so desperate and grieved that he too died not long after his wife's departure.
I don't think I would ever be like those into the above situations. I think I am an independent guy and not afraid to go on living alone.

Malay Rice@Chong Pang Market on Depavali Day

Since the haze situation has improved to PSI 60, we decided to take a drive on the new road from our place to Chong Pang Market. The drive was pleasant with more greenery view and the reservoir. It took us 15 minutes to reach Chong Pang Market.
The Nasi Padang or Malay rice was quite good but pricey for a crowded coffee shop setting. 2 plates cost $17.
Not recommended.

Prices fluctuate at Chong Pang

Prices of goods can differ quite a lot at Chong Pang market shops (heartland in northern part of Singapore). The topmost picture shows the price of cashew nuts at $17 per kilo or $8.50 for 500 grams and the second picture, $9 per 500 grams or 1/2 kilo.
The last is the picture of a 6 meter electrical extension cord. I paid $26.90 for this one when another shop nearby is selling for $3 more at $29.90.

Dinner was fried rice with prawns

End result of the preparation and cooking was the 2 plates of oishi fried rice

Overjoyed to have found this stall again

For the last 3 years we were trying to locate this stall selling roasted meat, wanton noodles, porridge etc but to no avail. We used to patronised it for some years before 2012 when it was at a coffee shop opposite the Yishun MRT station. Due to the demolition of the coffee shop, this stall (Jing Ma Che)disappeared without a trace. It has no website and was not listed as one of the best roasted meat stall. Hence, the difficulty in locating them at their new premise. However, we were in Yishun yesterday and co-incidentally found this stall. You can imagine how happy we were. Today we went back there, ordered the food as shown in the photos above and enjoyed the food. However, the food selling in the former place tasted better. Think the chef must have gone back to HK.
In case if you are interested to dine over there the address is Block 101, Yishun Ave 5 (about 200 meters from the back of Yishun MRT station). Bon Appetit!
