Hot dog yes but naan dog?

The Japanese call this "Naan-dog". Instead of buns they used naan a type of bread eaten by the Indians. The meat, can be chicken, pork etc. are wrapped by the naan. The naan-dog comes with salad and a cup of cream of mushroom soup. It's pretty good I must say.

Nasi Lemak in Japan

My wife made the nasi lemak accompanied by the fishes that I caught from the jetty. The sambal was brought in from SG. The coconut milk was purchased from a Japanese supermarket. The nasi lemak was delicious but could have been better if we had used Thai rice instead of Japanese rice which was a little sticky.

A superb dinner at home

The 3 types of meat (yakiniku) was offered at a 50% discount of its UP of S$24. Discount was given because it has one day to go before the expiry date. There is fierce competition between the various supermarkets here and each is trying its best to woo the consumers.
We bought the yakiniku in the morning and had them for dinner. It was a superb meal!

Stingray, a rare sight among Japanese people

A few days ago, a Japanese man caught the above stingray at a fishing pier. Everyone panic as most have not seen a stingray before. Someone shouted a warning that the barb (can really hurt if you touch it) is dangerous and sting people. Stingray is rare in Japan but to me a Singaporean, it is quite common. No one knew how to get rid of the barb. I volunteered to do the job. The process of breaking the barb is easy meat for me as I used to catch stingrays off the water in Bedok and rendered them harmless. I drove a sharp instrument between the barb and the tail and broke it. The Japanese were relieved. The guy who caught the ray wanted to throw it back into the sea. Before he could do that I asked whether I could have the ray. He was surprised that I wanted the ray. I told him it is a good eating fish if he knows how to cook it. He shook his head and said he didn't want it. I gladly cleaned it and brought it home for our meal.

"Take" chan the pet goat in Japan

"Take" chan (pronounced as "Ta-kay") is a 3 year old male goat kept as a pet by our neighbor's friend. We paid him a visit with a load of okra leaves, stems and branches which he dearly loves.

Daiso and some refreshments

We shopped at Daiso, Japan this afternoon and after that had some food at a restaurant nearby. I love the club sandwiches and the dessert. The sandwiches cost about S$12 or Yen 1,000 and the dessert also about $12. The food was very good but not sure whether they are expensive by Singapore standard.

A lovely autumn day and a delicious meal

A beautiful autumn day, sunny with a top temperature of 22C. We decided to have lunch at a Japanese restaurant not far from our house.

From the menu, we chose the Saikoro Steak set. I ordered the steak with the large prawn fritters and my wife the steak with fried fish. Coffee was also included in the lunch set. Saikoro means diced (steak cut into cube shape that looked like dice) in Japanese.

The cost for the two lunch set was S$36. It was a delicious and satisfying meal.

Good fishing at a jetty amid beautiful autumn weather in Japan

I went to the fishing pier or jetty around 9 am thinking it was early and the place empty. I was wrong because by the time I've arrived, the jetty was crowded as shown in the photo above.
By the time I have done, I've caught 5 small garoupa which were ideal for making karaage.
The karaage fish and the sweet potato leaves from our neighbors' farm was our dinner. The chocolate muffins and coffee was dessert.
The weather was excellent with a top temperature of 20c. It was sunny throughout the day with light breeze while I was at the jetty.

Recce for a good fishing ground in Japan

Spent the whole afternoon looking for another place to fish. It wasn't that nice (the place) as I noticed that not many fishing enthusiasts caught fishes. They were around a dozen of them and probably were there from early morning.
Before heading home, we proceeded to a supermarket and bought our dinner as shown above. There are the ham/egg sandwiches, kaisendon, fruit cakes (not in the pic) and fried oysters with mayonnaise sauce.

Another day at the jetty in Japan

Returned to the jetty again to fish. This time there were a few yellow tails or known as selar in SG or nasi lemak fish as well as a 5 kg stingray. It was cold and chilly and coupled with the intermittent drizzling and strong wind, it was not so fun.

After returning home, we cleaned the fishes and cooked them for dinner. First, the ray was cooked in Indian curry, the selar were made into sashimi and karaage. The leftover of the curry was kept in the fridge.

Jetty fishing in Japan during autumn

Fishing at the jetty is quite fun especially if you can catch some fishes on a lovely autumn day. The average afternoon temperature was 20c. The above photos were taken in the evening before we left for home.

Fishing off the coast of Shimonoseki, Japan

The garoupa (top pic) was caught by me off the coast of southern Japan at a place called Shimonoseki. It weighs about 5 kilogram. We made sashimi out of it which was fresh and tasty. The other fish was a giant yellow tail weighing about 7 kg also caught by me (bottom pic)

SGD$10 lunch in a Japanese restaurant

Visited a popular restaurant in Japan and had lunch there today. We were there as early as 11 am which is the opening time. Within the next 10 minutes before we got our food, the place was already crowded. We ordered the most popular dish (set lunch) which was the Hamburg steak. It came with some noodles and a plate of fried eggplants and shredded cabbage. Included in the set was also a cup of delicious miso soup and a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee. The meal was very good considering the price of S$10 for a set. We will be returning for another meal in the near future.
