A more sensible meal@ home

After last night of heavy and oily dinner, I requested my wife to cook me a simple and healthy lunch. It was made up of miso soup, broccoli, kimchi, a fried egg and a bowl of Japanese rice.
For the next few days, I don't think I would want to have a heavy dinner like the one I had last night.

Dinner@ P12

We visited P12 coffee shop in Sengkang again for dinner. Our menu was fried sliced pepper beef, sambal sting ray, sambal kangkong and rice. The food was good but we found it was too oily.
We became very thirsty after that. Think the quality of oil they used for frying wasn't the good type. That's basically the problem with eating out. We spent $32 for the above 3 dishes.

Our blessed Sunday lunch@ home and chu char dinner

We had our Sunday lunch at home. Rice from Japan, nikujaga, bitter gourd and potato salad. All dishes were prepared and cooked by my wife. Wish we could eat at home more often but sometimes due to our schedule it's not possible.

Chu char dinner

Dinner was at a coffee shop in the Sengkang area (P12 coffee shop). This was our first time there. We ordered the hot-plate tofu with seafood and minced meat, sweet sour sliced fish, sambal kangkong and a bowl of rice each. The food was above average. I like the sweet sour fish and the tofu. The kangkong was not spicy enough for me. The cost was $28.50. The place was 40% full at around 5pm.
Service was fast and we like it. We will frequent this place soon.

Rambutan

Rambutan is an important fruit tree of humid tropical Southeast Asia, traditionally cultivated especially in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. It is a popular garden fruit tree and propagated commercially in small orchards. It is one of the best-known fruits of Southeast Asia and is also widely cultivated elsewhere in the tropics including Africa, the Caribbean islands, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, India, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. It is also produced in Ecuador where it is known as achotillo and on the island of Puerto Rico.
Thailand is the largest producer of rambutan, with 588,000 tonnes (55.5%), followed by Indonesia with 320,000 tonnes (30.2%) and Malaysia with 126,300 tonnes (11.9%) in 2005, the three countries collectively accounting for 97% of the world's supply of rambutan. In Thailand, major cultivation center is in Surat Thani Province. In Indonesia, the production center of rambutan is located in the western parts of Indonesia, which includes JavaSumatra and Kalimantan.
The fruit is sweet and contains vitamin c and others. The above cost S$6.60 which I bought from a fruit stall in Ang Mo Kio.

My friend, a land owner

I have a friend who owns this piece of land in district in district of S'pore. It is 10,000 sq ft in size or 10 times the size of a 4-roomed HDB flat. He bought it in the mid 1970s for a sum of S$70,000 and today he is being offered by developers ranging from $6 million to $8 million. All of his neighbors had sold their land for development of new houses or apartments but he would not part with his property. He is in his late 70s and a very rich man, at least on paper.

Lunch@ IMM

We visited IMM at Jurong and had lunch. The chicken curry set ($5.50) was not bad considering the cook and staff were mainland Chinese. The sambal sotong or spicy cuttle fish set was equally good ($6.50).
After lunch we spotted "Duke's Cafe" and had our cappucino and scones. One set comprised of a cup of cappucino and 2 pieces of scones/bread rolls which cost $5.90. The quality of bread and pastry were very good.

A dog on human seat

Putting a dog on a stool/chair meant for human at a food center in Singapore is quite a common scene. Even I am a dog lover, I think this action is not right. The seats are for people to sit and have their meals and besides other things, it is also unhygienic.

Curry fish head@ Banana Leaf Apolo

Visited Banana Leaf Apolo at Race Course this afternoon for lunch. We ordered the curry fish head and ate it with white rice and some veggies. The place was packed. The curry was more spicy than the last time we had. Rice set with 2 types of veggies were refillable. Overall, the food was good although it's a bit expensive. We did not order the drinks and the total bill came to $33.

Hawker was flattered

The hawker whom I ordered the above food told me it was too much for me to consume. I told him I could eat quite a lot and besides, my friend recommended me his food. He was elated and happy with the compliment. In actual fact, the food was cooked Teochew-style and it was delicious and not expensive. I paid $5.50 for this lunch and was worth it.
