Men's toilet in Japanese shopping mall

Recently, I visited a toilet located in a shopping mall in Japan and was so impressed with the cleanliness of the toilet that I decided to take some photos of it.
In Singapore, the toilets in the shopping malls are generally filthy even with the cleaners around to clean them periodically. Of course, the cleanliness of public toilets here are worse and no different from a third world country.

Prices up almost 20% in 2 weeks

We went back to this restaurant for the Tim Sum and was surprised to find the prices of the items were up by $1 per dish. We ordered that same 5 dishes 2 weeks ago and the bill came to $30 but today the damage was $35!
What a shame because they did not even display the price list of each item.

There is so much fuss about the MCs thing in cabin crew following the death of a leading stewardess while stopping in SFO. Some cabin crew and ex cabin crew placed the blame on the lss's death due her reluctance to report sick for her flight due to fear of being penalized by SIA.
SIA does not penalize its crew for reporting sick unless it is excessive like more than 28 days per year. Each crew are allowed up to 28 days of MCs per year without being penalized (without pay deduction). But for promotion, one who has lesser days of MC has a better chance of promotion if all things being equal. I hope this would clear any doubt about whether SIA penalizes it crew due to MCs.

Cabin crew MCs or medical leave

A reporter got in touch with me regarding the MCs thing in cabin crew. If you may recall a leading stewardess of 16 years with the airline died in her SFO hotel room recently and many believe she was sick but too scared to resort to taking MC due to the company's policy. Ever since her death, there has been a spate of talks and discussions in the social media regarding SIA's attitude towards crew who report sick for work. The reporter wanted to verify whether all that had been said about SIA regarding the MCs were true or not. Please visit the other blog for more information.

Had lunch with my school cohorts and teacher

Had lunch with my RI cohorts at City Square Mall this afternoon. On the right hand side is our ex-school teacher. He has been living in Canada for a couple of years.

Below average hawker food in Ang Mo Kio, SG

Both the braised duck rice and fried kway teow are sub-standard. The duck dish was $12 and kway teow was $4. The stalls are at block 409 Ang Mo Kio Ave 10. The name of the duck stall is something like Leng Kee and the kway teow is Bendeemer Road (side by side to each other).
I will not recommend anyone eating from those 2 stalls.

Simple meal = weight loss

Due to eating of CNY treats and heavy meals, I put on almost a kilo in my weight. However, after slowing down on the heavy intake and having a simple meal yesterday like the one above, I lost all the weight that I picked up. Now it is back to 72.6 kg for me.

Good and cheap,relatively speaking

My friend in Sydney bought this Australian made Holden 1.6 for S$16,000. It was a demo car,6 month old and clocked 1,000 km. A brand new one cost S$19,000. It was sold at a discount of $3,000. In Singapore, a similar Japanese car would have cost $120,000 which includes a coe of about $60,000. Ridiculous is the word. Cars, houses and apartments are so costly here that one have to work a life time to pay for these 2 necessities.

Lunch with ex- schoolmates and teacher

Had a meal with my former schoolmates and our ex-teacher. He is seated second on the left next to me (standing). He is now 85 years old and is our role model even now as we aged. His recipe for a healthy and long life is "eat whatever you like and keep busy meeting friends". He was RI's discipline master in the 1960s. Currently, he lives in Canada with his wife. We will be lunching again after the Chinese New Year season.

Din Tai Fung...to me it's average

We had our dinner at Din Tai Fung. None of the 4 dishes we ordered really satisfied us. We prefer the food at Crystal Jade which features Cantonese style of cooking. Din on the other hand is mainly Taiwanese cooking.

"The Grass Is Blue" written and sung by Dolly Parton

Above is the video of Dolly Parton performing "live" in London in 2009 at the age of 63.

In 1999, Dolly Parton was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. She has composed over 3,000 songs, notably "I Will Always Love You" (a two-time U.S. country chart-topper for Parton, as well as an international pop hit for Whitney Houston), "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors", and "9 to 5". She is also one of the few to have received at least one nomination from the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Tony Awards, and Emmy Awards. As an actress, she starred in films such as 9 to 5, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Rhinestone, and Steel Magnolias.

Below is the lyrics for this touching and lovely song, "The Grass is Blue".

I've had to think up a way to survive
Since you said it's over
Told me good-bye
I just can't make it one day without you
Unless i pretend that the opposite's true
Rivers flow backwards
Valleys are high
Mountains are level
Truth is a lie
I'm perfectly fine
And i don't miss you
The sky is green
And the grass is blue

How much can a heart and a troubled mind take
Where is that fine line before it all breaks
Can one end their sorrow
Just cross over it
And into that realm of insanitive bliss

There's snow in the tropics
There's ice on the sun
It's hot in the arctic
And crying is fun
And i'm happy now
And i'm glad we're through
And the sky is green
And the grass is blue

And the rivers flow backwards
And my tears are dry
Swans hate the water
And eagles can't fly
But i'm alright now
Now that i'm over you
And the sky is green
And the grass is blue
And i don't love you
And the grass is blue

We had bak chor mee  and some of the veggies and fried eggs which was brought from home for lunch. We thought since we wanted to eat out, we should supplement our meals with some fibre food.
The bak chor mee near our place is undoubtedly one of the best we had tasted. It's inexpensive ($3.50) and worth the money spent.
