Another blog by Boh Tong the ex- SIA cabin crew

Got up early to a humid and warm morning here in Singapore. There is so much I could nag about my country such as the jam packed shopping malls, eateries, the heavy traffic etc etc but at least, it is safer than most countries whereby the crime rates are extremely higher and people get killed in earthquake, landslides etc.
My wife is now in Southern Japan. She is visiting her parents in Kitakyushu. I did not want to go with her due to the earthquakes that recently hit that place a few days ago. Although her parents' place was not affected badly (just a few tremors only), I am still worried for them.

Of bananas and Yakult

After a heavy lunch of Biryani and laksa, I bought 2 packets of Yakult and a bunch of bananas. Nowadays, I consumed 2 bottles of Yakult a day to help ease my stomach from eating spicy food. The bananas help in defeating constipation and I eat at least 2 a day.

Senior lesbian female crew can get away with molest

Quite a number of senior male cabin crew had either been demoted or sacked as a result of molesting stewardesses. Most of the seniors were the Inflight Supervisors (IFS).
Strangely, no female senior cabin crew has been accused of molesting the junior stewardesses. Yes, I am talking about the lesbian female senior cabin crew a.k.a IFSs. There may not be as many lesbian IFSs as the horny male IFS but I can assure that there are at least a few dozens in the airline.
In my opinion, the stewardesses that the IFSs preyed on were newbies.
Firstly, being new they are too scared to complain against their senior female colleagues. There is seemingly nothing wrong for a female senior to touch the hair, faces and even the body of a stewardess. These actions are allowed in the name of "grooming checks". However, a senior male crew are not allowed to touch the stewardesses' parts.
Management would also not believe the stewardesses should they complain against their senior female superior for molesting them.
That's the reason why we have never heard of stewardesses complaining against their senior female colleagues for molest.

Female pilot, ex-lover of an IFSs

The media is abuzz with news of SIA recruiting female pilots. So far, there are 2 female cadet pilots undergoing training in Australia. It would probably cost S$200,000 to train each cadet pilot and $500,000 for a captain. It's a costly affair as compared to a stewardess or steward ($20,000).
Talking about female pilots, I remember an ex-stewardess became the first female captain in this part of the world. She was the daughter of an airline captain and an ex-lover of a female Inflight Supervisor or IFSs.
There isn't any big deal when SIA announced it will start recruiting female pilots as many airlines already had female pilots.

Yishun Laksa

Since we were quite free today, we went to Yishun for our favourite laksa. Before the laksa, I had a haircut nearby.
The laksa is still as good as the last time we ate about a month ago. Towards the later part of the afternoon, the laksa gravy was thicker and tastier.
After laksa, we proceeded to a coffee shop nearby for our favourite "big pow". A little disappointed as the pow wasn't as juicy as I expected.

The ice tea was refreshingly tasty as compared to the one which we usually drink at a coffee shop near our home.

Mizzy Nasi Lemak

Had Mizzy nasi lemak + otak for breakfast @ Changi Village. People told me that Mizzy's standard is on the decline but on the contrary, the food is still good and price reasonable. I had the set D which is made up of the rice, fried egg, ikan billis and 2 medium size selar fish. I had an otak too and the price was $4.50.

The satays were so good that ....

The satays at a Chong Pang market stall was so good that after having 10 sticks initially,we ordered another 20 sticks with the ketupat.
This stall sells its satays and ketupats for 60 cents each. However, we do not mind paying 10 cts more than the other stall's 50 cts satay.
This is one of the best, placing the Satay Club's satays miles behind in terms of taste and pricing.

Chong Pang hawkers' food for lunch

We waited till we were almost hungry before proceeding to Chong Pang market hawker stalls for lunch.
The roasted meat in one of the coffee shops (Jing Ma Che) were yummy although the meat were chopped into small pieces ( I prefer larger pieces).
Two doors away, there is a tim sum stall. I bought the char siew chee chong fun and pow from it. Good stuff.
After a sugar cane drink from another stall outside of the coffee shop, we ordered 10 sticks of satay just to find out whether they taste as good as those at the Satay Club. In fact, the satays and its sauce were superior in quality compared to the Club satay. So no more visit to the Satay Club which was further from our home than Chong Pang.

Good kway chup & pig's trotter

Perhaps I have posted this before but I want to reiterate that this kway chup and pig's trotter is one of the best in Singapore. The stall is manned by an elderly lady who is known as "Sister" at block 130, Tampines St 11. The name of the kopi shop is Eng Huat Lee.
The stall is opened daily from 10am till late. It closes on Monday afternoon. Try their home-made chilli sauce and you will agree that it is also as good as the rest of the food.

Satay@ satay club

We visited the Satay club next to Lau Par Sat situated between Shenton Way and Robinson Road for supper.
The place was crowded with many tourists and locals. The main attraction here as the name suggested was satay.
When we arrived, we were swarmed with hawker assistants pestering us to place our food order with them. There were at least 14 satay stalls and some other food stalls selling seafood, fried rice etc.
As we were able to get a table near stall no. 9, we had little choice but to order the satay from them. We were told that we were not allowed to order food from other stalls if were sitting at their table.
The satay above were from stall 9. Each stick of satay cost 70 cents and the ketupat or palm leaf wrapped rice was $1 each.
When we finished eating the above, we went to another stall (no.8) and ordered some satays (no picture). We were trying to compare the satays from the 2 stalls and see which one was tastier. We found that both stalls' satays were equally good. The satay sauce from stall 8 was slight thicker and better.

Taxi drivers/cabbies in Singapore

Over the last 1 week I had to travel by taxi to do some part time work. The fare was paid by the company that engaged me.
The story here is not about my job but rather about the taxi drivers who ferried me to work vice versa.
I noticed that all the cabs I was travelling in were driven by elderly men who were in their 60s.
At age over 60 years (won't say all but some), one's reflexes may be slow. Eyesight may not be as good as a young man and judgement on the road may not accurate.

On one occasion, the taxi I was travelling in almost hit the car in front of us. The taxi driver had to make a sudden quick swerve to avoid hitting it.
From my judgement, the whole incident was caused by the taxi driver. He was dreaming or not being attentive. He was travelling at a great speed whereas the car in front was travelling at the permitted speed of 90 kph.

Then on another occasion, the cabbie appeared to be half asleep as he hit the highway at 100 kph. I was so worried that I started to chat with him to keep him awake throughout the journey.

Just today as I was travelling home in another taxi, the driver appeared to be sick. He applied some ointment to his nose and started to breathe harder. Then he held the steering wheel with his right hand, swung and stretched his left hand as though he had a numbed left hand. All this was done as the cab was travelling at 90 kph.
I asked him if he was alright. He told me he had just eaten his meal with his friends and felt bad as he ate too much.

Seriously, these old cabbies scared the daylight out of me. For safety reasons, I think I would switch to Uber whereby the drivers are much younger and more alert.

NB: Cabbies are allowed to work till age 75 in Singapore.

Long queue just to place your order

My friend sent me this. He claimed that this hawker is selling food near his place. The queue could be as long as 1 km and the waiting time just to order the food is about 2 hours.

The bully got only 6 weeks for assaulting an old man

Max Tham, a retired Inflight Supervisor or IFS (68 yrs old) was beaten up by a 22 year old bully called Shawn Ho for allegedly molesting his girl friend. Max had a broken nose and bruises. This happened last August.
I know Max quite well and I am sure he was not capable of molesting the girl.
The bully was charged with assaulting a defenceless old man and was sentenced to 6 weeks in jail. He could have been jailed for 2 years and fined up to $2,000 or both. The judge was quite lenient in this case.

Lunch at Sembawang Hawker Centre

This satay is from Soon Lee Heng which has outlets at Changi Village,Clementi and other places. A stick of satay here is 70c which is expensive. The one at Changi is only 60c. The satay club at Lau Pa Sat cost 70c which could be better than SLH as they are mostly prepared by the Malays. Only problem is the satay club is only opened in the night.
The other dish is the jew hu eng chai. It's quite good but a little pricey ($4.50c)
