Thai chicken rice restaurant

We were at Nex Mall and decided to try the chicken rice at the new restaurant called " Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice". The chilli for the chicken is not like the one that goes with the Hainanese chicken rice and so we were disappointed. A small bowl of chicken rice cost S$2 and the white rice $1.20. The steamed sea bass was $38++ and had the taste of mud as though it was a freshwater fish. The half portion chicken ($16) was dry and not as good as the Hainanese chicken. The soup ($6.50 a small bowl) was good. The spinach soup was so so and the fried egg (omelette) was acceptable. Best of all was the Thai chendol.

My Kampong Chicken & rice

My Kampong Chicken opened a few months ago at Seletar Mall. This is the third outlet in SG. We had half a chicken and rice for dinner. The chilli sauce is better than most chicken rice stalls/restaurants. The chicken is quite lean and it is a comparable $13 (half chicken) to the food centers etc. The meat is also very tasty and for the price and quality, one does not have to visit the hawker stalls anymore. The place is air conditioned  and clean. It is also halal certified.

Bar cho mee and Chicken rice @ AMK Blk 51

I was around the Ang Mo Kio area running some errands for the family and had the bar cho mee ($3.50) and chicken rice set ($3.50) at block 51 (next to AMK Hub). I didn't finish eating the noodles because it wasn't up to my expectation. I kept some space for my stomach and tried the Hainanese chicken rice which was good. In fact, the peanut soup was so good and plentiful I think it is worth around $2.

Hainanese Chicken Rice

For dinner, we went to Blk 628, AMK for chicken rice and bubor chacha (no pic). This is for one serving ($3.50). I had the chicken breast meat. The chilli sauce and ginger tasted better than most.
The whole chicken is quite small like the kampong chicken. One whole chicken cost S$22.
The rice is nicely fragrant with the chicken oil but the grain is small.

My huge lunch @ Hougang Interchange/MRT Station

Yesterday, I ate only 1 meal (lunch) and was very hungry by 1pm. I adjourned to Hougang Interchange/MRT Station and had lunch at one of the coffee shops. First, it was the ba-chor-mee ($3.50) followed by the Hainanese chicken rice ($4 with rice, breast meat, gizzards and liver). Both dishes were delicious and priced reasonably. In fact, this was my first time eating at this place. I chose the food according the queue of people. Long queue of people usually mean that the food is good and cheap.

Ji De Lai Hainanese Chicken Rice & Jack Fruits

This chicken rice is one of the best in Singapore. The stall is at Chong Pang Market some 10 minutes drive from Jalan Kayu where I live. We went there around 11 am so there is no queue. During lunch and dinner time it will be crowded. The chicken, rice, chilli sauce, ginger and cabbage soup are of high standard, much better than the well known names like Boon Tong Kee and Nam Kee etc. Besides the pricing is reasonably cheap ($15 for a 1/2 chicken which includes a plateful of gizzards and liver). Only set back is the place is not air-conditioned but who really cares.
Chong Pang is a paradise for people who love fruits. It even has Mountain Cat Durians from Malaysia (one of the best).
We went for the bananas and Jack fruits. I love Jack fruits but can't find elsewhere except in a few places like C. Pang.
Do you know that eating Jack fruits regularly may lower your blood pressure?

Hainanese Chicken Rice for lunch

This Chong Pang Hainanese chicken rice is value for money. Why do I say this is because the chicken is tender, the chilly sauce and ginger go well with the meal plus the rice is fluffy and tasty. The half chicken, 2 plate of rice and a big bowl of soup cost only $12 for 2 people.

Rude staff pissed me off/ fruits, dessert and chicken rice

Went to a shop called Poh Seng that sells water heater at 153, Jalan Besar. A plump lady of 50+ years old reluctantly attended to us. From the very start she was unhappy serving us. When we asked a few questions about the water heater, she pulled a long face and answered rudely. I was so pissed off with her attitude that I left the place without buying anything.

Since it was raining, we proceeded to a stall that sells Indian food near Rowel Road off Jalan Besar. We ordered the roti prata and teh halia. After that we went to a coffee shop that sell the crispy handmade noodles. Curious, I ordered the noodles (3rd picture from top) and was disappointed with the taste ($5.20).
Many hawkers these days are amateurish and can't even cooked decent food. Some even employ China people to cook and sell local fares. In Penang, the government does not allow foreigners to cook and sell the local dishes.

Fruits, desserts and chicken rice@ Chong Pang

We were at Chong Pang around 5pm to buy some fruits but found ourselves eating desserts and Hainanese Chicken rice. We ordered the chicken rice because we were curious. The queue was rather long at 5pm+  and so I queue up to get a plate of chicken breast meat with rice. We think many patronised this stall because the food is cheap and good. The chicken rice I ordered was $2.50 which is one of the cheapest in Singapore. It was tasty, value for money and the staff was nice and polite.
