Valu$ sells cheaper than most

Last night we had our dinner at Toa Payoh Hub. We were glad to bump into another Valu$ shop. It is situated at the basement, opposite FairPrice and next to Toa Payoh MRT station entrance.
The things are incredibly cheap e.g. a box of Lipton tea bags (20) is going for $1 (at FairPrice $5.30). The After Eight mint is $2.95 (selling about $8 elsewhere), the chocolates are going for $1 each. There are hundred of items and one shouldn't miss this place.

At the basement of Toa Payoh Hub opposite the bus interchange is where you will find the famous Soon Heng rojak stall. The queue was as long as ever even at 9 pm when we were there. The 15 minutes wait was worth it as the rojak is one of the best in Singapore.

Home prepared fish head curry for lunch

This was the fish head curry we cooked for lunch. We seldom cooked this dish. More often than not we cook chicken curry. Therefore, the taste wasn't as good. I told my wife the next time we feel like eating fish head curry we should head for Apollo Banana Leaf in Little India.

Was at Hougang Mall for Penang Laksa when we spotted a shop called Valu$. In this shop the things were so cheap that you can't believe it. Everything was in the price range of 50 cents to a few dollars.
We bought a tin of Danish butter cookies that cost only $1, 3 pieces of Lux soap at $1 and  2 packets of moist tissues at $1.
It was fun shopping at Valu$. There are many of such shops but none sell their items as cheap as Valu$.

Left for Chong Pang market in the late morning to do a bit of marketing and had chicken rice lunch. These days the fruits and veggies are quite expensive even in the heartland like Chong Pang. The green papaya is $2.30 which is at least 80c more than the ones at Ang Mo Kio. The Jack fruit is at $6 per kilo.
Must admit the chicken rice was very good. We ordered half of a chicken and it was only $12. A plate of chicken rice was 50c which was reasonable. Besides, the food was superb.

Since the toto first prize was not won in yesterday's draw, the jackpot prize is now at $7 million plus. The draw will be on this coming Monday and I will place a small bet on it.
The last jackpot prize of $8 million was won by a single ticket. Each ticket cost $1 and I will spend $10 on this coming draw. I hope to strike it and if I do I will tell you about it.

Had whole wheat pita bread for breakfast. The bread stuffing are cheese, ham, fried eggs and lettuce.
It was quite nice but I still prefer white bread or ciabatta.
Dinner was light. The fried mackeral cutlet was superb. We also had cherry tomatoes and diakon or white radish.

Our ex-teacher

My ex school teacher flew down from Canada a few days ago and wanted to meet some of us here, in Singapore. He is 86 years old. His wife, a professor is currently in UK visiting their son. She should be here in the next few days to join him.
Six of us, his ex RI (Raffles Institution) students in the early 1960s were invited to his apartment and had lunch with him.
We had a wonderful time together this afternoon, reminiscing the past. He was a discipline master in RI but none of us got into trouble with him. He was a very strict teacher and disciplinarian. He has even sacked a classmate of ours for mistreating a female teacher in 1963.
Today, he treats us not as his students but friends. We wish him good health (which he has) and promised to meet up with him and his lovely wife before they return to Canada.

At Ikea this afternoon

Combo 1 ..$2.00

Combo 2 $2.50

Hot chicken dog $1

We were at Ikea Tampines this afternoon to do some shopping. After paying for our stuff at the cashier, we noticed this was a fairly long queue at Ikea Bistro. People were buying hot dogs and drinks. Out of curiosity, I joined the queue and after 10 minutes, I got what we wanted, all the above.
The hot dogs, ice cream and drinks were deliciously cheap. The drinks were refillable without extra charge and so were the chili sauce, ketchup and mustard.
We will definitely drop by at Ikea Bistro when we next visit Ikea store.
