Finally, our coffee machine has arrived

 

It is convenient to have a coffee maker at home if coffee is your favorite hot drink. We have been drinking instant coffee day in and day out unless we are at Toast Box, Yakun Kaya, Kopitiam etc. We ordered the machine online and it was delivered to our home. We can also make cappuccino, latte etc. The coffee maker is reasonably priced at about S$400.

Mauritius

 Our friend, a Japanese lady who is married to a Mauritian has flown back to Mauritius with her husband. Due to Covid-19, they are now under quarantine in a hotel on the island. She sent us a few photos of the hotel they are now staying.The accommodation and food for 2 weeks will be paid for by the government of Mauritius.

Glorious morning after Typhoon Haishen

Typhoon Haishen is almost gone

It was a night I've never experienced before. From around midnight, Typhoon Haishen pounded us with heavy rainfall and violent winds up to 200 kph. It eased at about 7 am this morning. The wind is still quite strong (80 kph) but the rain has stopped.
The area closest to us, a few km away was hit by power failure and some houses were damaged. There was no landslide or flood occurring near us, as far as I know.
We had some relatives staying with us overnight. Their house is very old and could collapsed in the face of the terrifying typhoon. They will be making their way home in the evening as soon as the wind stop pounding.
I would like to thank God for protecting us and also to those who have prayed for our safety.

1 to 2 hourly update on Typhoon Haishen (Sunday 6 Sep 2020)

Sunday (6/9/2020)
10 am : Sight wind (17 kph) as per normal in most mornings.
Forecast 19% of rain but no rain at all. Cloudy, humidity 85%,temp is 27c
11 am: Wind speed is 18 kph. Rain forecast is 28% but no rain.
Cloudy, humidity 84%, temp 27c
1pm: Wind speed 19 kph. Drizzling, temp is 29c.
2 pm   : Forecast wind speed 20 kph but less strong near my house (notice the tree in the pic is not swaying much). Light rain falling for the last 20 mins.
Temp = 29c with 85 % humidity.

4 pm: Wind speed forecast is 41 kph but in reality it is about 15 kph around my neighborhood (see pic & video below). Temp is 25c, humidity 86 and rainfall 9 mm. Looks ok so far!

     4:30 pm update via video. All looks normal.

Southwest Japan bracing for super typhoon

Super Typhoon Haishen is expected to hit our place by Monday,starting from Sunday night (tomorrow) with strong wind up to 290 km per hour. There will be lots of rainfall.
Last week, we had a milder typhoon known as Typhoon Maysak. While it caused some damages to Southern Japan, it did spare our area.
We visited  2 supermarkets this morning and found some panic buying of bottled water,canned food and instant and cup noodles. People are stocking up water and food items in case of emergency. Even cooking gas canisters were flying off the shelves.
Meanwhile, we are securing items in our garden and around the exterior of the house etc in case the typhoon sweeps them away.

Covers for garden benches

Due to the intense summer heat with temperature going up to 35C, we bought the foil material from Daiso and my wife made the coverings for the benches. The coverings can also keep the wooded benches from the dust, rain and the cold winter.

Extreme weather destroying my crops

Two weeks ago there was daily downpour of rain and now the sun is out everyday. Too much of either is bad. The video was taken this morning and some of the capsicums were discolored and others rotting due to the heat.
