We tried making our own yam cake or "orh kueh" as they call it in Teochew. This is our first attempt at making the yam cake. It may not look nice but honestly speaking, it tasted better than all the yam cakes I have eaten from the hawkers' stalls. We missed out the sliced red chilli and spring onions but it still tasted very good. It's good because we put in a lot of diced yam into the cake. The ones we ate at the hawkers' stalls contained more flour and just small pieces of yam.

It does look "solid"! Yam is expensive, so your home made orh kueh has to be priced at $15 or more to breakeven. So your authentic kueh is the real deal.
The yam in the pic is $1.50 and got it from Chong Pang.
