30 September 2015 Wednesday

Haze still bad but went out for lunch with friends

The haze situation is still bad. It is still in the very unhealthy range. Many have suffered due to the haze which is a regular affair at this time of the year. The haze is caused by the burning of the forest and peat land in Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Nevertheless, today me and my wife braved the dreadful haze and ventured out to have lunch with our friends at Takashimaya.
We met at a Japanese restaurant (Tampopo Grand) for lunch. Our lunches consist of sushi and sashimi. The food wasn't extraordinary and was pricey too. I did not snap photo of our friends and the food we ate. I was afraid it may be considered rude to take pictures as one of them is a celebrity.
As they were busy people, we bade farewell a little later after we've finished eating.

Since we were at Takashimaya we decided to do a bit of shopping with the gift vouchers that someone gave us. We bought a few face towels and a hair dryer. After an hour or so we were back home.

The STI was up 2.95 points at the closing. The shares that I dabbled in rose a little...example Noble rose 1.5 cents to 0.415 cents on a heavy volume of 75 million. Hopefully, it could go up again in tomorrow's trading. Tiger Air closed up half a cent to 30 cents. SIA was unchanged at $10.70. Wilmar International was up 5 cents to $2.57. Genting (S) was down 1.5 cents to 0.725 cts.

The Dow Jones futures look good. At 1930 hours, the Dow futures was up 100 points. The futures is an indication of how the Dow will fare when it opens at 2130 hours later tonight.

2140 hours:

Wow the Dow is up 224 points 10 minutes after the opening. Things look good. Hope the upward trend could be sustained. Promise to be a good trading day tomorrow. Keep fingers crossed.

The old blog www.bohtong.org

I notice that many still visit my old blog. Some have told me they want me to carry on blogging about crew and airlines stories. They are very interested in what's going on in the airlines particularly SIA.
Some of these readers are cabin crew hopefuls while others are members of the public. As for the current flying crew, they dislike me writing about them or about things concerning flying. Naturally they are afraid that if they do anything wrong I may blog about them. Well there is a saying in Chinese which goes something like this...."if you have not committed a crime or done anything wrong why should you be scared of the policeman?"...right?
What a pleasant surprise they got into SIA !

Within a span of two weeks, my former "Talks" participants sent me the above messages telling me they've finally made it to be SIA stewardesses. Congrats to both of you!
On this note, I would also like to say that I may discontinue helping the cabin crew wannabes. It's taxing for me at my age to conduct the Talks and besides, I am also quite busy with my other work. I wish all wannabes the best of luck and hope there will be somebody else who can help you all. Thank you.

First posting in this blog...29 September 2015 Tuesday

Just installed a new system 3 Eco Inverter Sharp room air conditioners to all my 3 bedrooms yesterday. It was actually a replacement of my old air conditioner which we had for the last 11 years. The old set was still functioning well as I serviced it regularly but it's time to change.
We paid about $3,500 for the 3 room air conditioners which include 5 servicing and an extended warranty.
Naturally the new air conditioners are quieter than the old ones. As for the living room, we changed the old Sanyo air conditioner which we had for 5 years to a new Daikin set 2 years ago for about $2,300.

Today, I woke up at about 8:30am, anxiously waiting for the Singapore stock market to open (opens at 9 am on weekdays). The Dow Jones was down last night by a hefty 312 points to 16001. The Dow has been declining from a high off 18,000 a few months ago. The performance of the Dow would inevitably affect the Singapore market. The STI or Straits Times Index has been dropping too.
Reason why I mentioned about the Dow and the STI is because I do trade shares online.

The STI dropped 40+ points right from the opening and it didn't improve until about the closing time (5pm) to a mere 3.98 points. STI now stands at 2787.94 to the relief of many traders.
The stocks that I trade are also affect by the steady decline of the STI over the last 2 months.
I went to Saizeriya for lunch despite of the horrible haze . It was a set lunch of meat with a fried egg plus rice. The meal came with salad and free flow of hot/cold beverages.

After lunch, it was back to my PC watching my shares and in between blogging about this new blog.

The haze is in the very unhealthy range of  230 PSI (as at 6pm). We didn't have much of a choice but to switch on our air conditioning for the whole flat.

Due to the haze situation, we decided to eat at home. The dinner was a simple Japanese meal known as "Nabe" or "One pot dishes". We boiled vegetables together with sliced beef (sabu sabu beef),tofu, potatoes etc. We ate the food with Japanese sauces. It was a simple, healthy and yummy dinner (pictures below).

Welcome to my new blog

Dear Readers,

Thank you for following me to this blog. I started this blog partly because some of you told me you are addicted to my other blog and may wish to follow me wherever I go. This may not be as interesting as the one at www.bohtong.org but over here I hope not to offend anyone. I will most likely blog about myself and things that I do or did in the past or going to do.
As for now, I will stopped writing in the other blog. Let me have your comment regarding this blog please.
