Cooking fish head curry & eating pineapple tarts

Not satisfied with the quality of fish we had yesterday, today we bought really fresh fish head and cooked it in Indian curry.
The whole fish head with some extra meat cost only S$3. It's very cheap over here. Not many Japanese like fish head and that's why it is cheap.
Had pineapple tarts we brought from SG and ate it for dessert.

Home prepared fish head curry for lunch

This was the fish head curry we cooked for lunch. We seldom cooked this dish. More often than not we cook chicken curry. Therefore, the taste wasn't as good. I told my wife the next time we feel like eating fish head curry we should head for Apollo Banana Leaf in Little India.

Curry fish head@ Banana Leaf Apolo

Visited Banana Leaf Apolo at Race Course this afternoon for lunch. We ordered the curry fish head and ate it with white rice and some veggies. The place was packed. The curry was more spicy than the last time we had. Rice set with 2 types of veggies were refillable. Overall, the food was good although it's a bit expensive. We did not order the drinks and the total bill came to $33.

Apollo Banana Leaf Indian Restaurant

Our New Year Eve's lunch was at Apollo Banana Leaf Indian curry restaurant. We ordered a small fish head curry for 2 people ($24)and 2 sets of rice with vegetables ($3.50 each ..free flow). Even at 3pm when we arrived, the place was already full.
The fish head was not fresh as expected and the curry gravy was diluted to the point that I thought we were having assam pedas dish. Definitely a big disappointment for us!

The next time we will visit Muthu's Curry which is a few doors away. We had been to Muthu's a few years ago and the food wasn't as good as Apollo but who knows, judging from the crowd it may have improved. We did try Shakuntala just last year but it was very disappointing.
Apollo was frequented by us more often but I think it is time to move on to other restaurants for their fish head curries.

Lunch was roasted duck and dinner was fish head curry, vegetables and rice at Jalan Kayu coffee shop. That was half portion of a duck which was $20. The fish head (half) was $22 and the veggies were $3 from a nasi lemak stall. Rice was 60c per plate. Food as usual good and worthwhile paying for.

Our favourite fish head curry restaurant

At Little India in the late morning and so dropped by Apollo Banana Leaf for its fish head curry. The fish head is served "whole" and not like many places where they halved the fish head. Quite reasonable priced. The rice with 2 tpyes of veggies are on a free flow basis. Bill came to about $31 which included gst and service charge.
The quality of the fish is above average and the curry is just right, not too spicy. This is our favourite fish head curry restaurant.

Fish head curry dinner & Yakult

Although it was a Sunday (yesterday) and the last day of the March school holidays, we took our dinner at the crowded coffee shop near Jalan Kayu. We ordered our favourite fish head curry and even with the crowd, the food came within 15 minutes which was considered very fast. Service was good and the curry was excellent (although the 1/2 fish head was small).
The curry sauce came with lots of veggies like ladies fingers, brinjals, pineapple etc. We had 1 1/2 plate of rice each. The dessert was free of charge. Total bill = $23.

After dinner, I usually drink a bottle of Yakult which is good for digestion. Yakult promotes overall good health and has in the market for the last 70 years. Read more
